The Power In Taking Focused Action

When you are accomplishing you resolutions, goals, or intentions that you have set it’s important to look at two concepts working together. Take = FOCUSED + ACTION

Let’s start with focusing.Focused ActionWhen you have focus in life, you are able to spend your energy and resources more efficiently and you move towards your goals much faster. Take a look at your actions now Make note: what do you need to stop doing? Then Make note: what do you need to start doing?Spend some time thinking about this (or get help from a coach, mentor, etc.) so that you can move closer to your goals.

How To Focus

  • Plan the time – add the events or activities you need to focus on into your calendar to make sure you have set amount of time to focus on that 1 thing during your day. Also are you more efficient and do you have more energy during the morning, afternoon, or evening?
  • Remove environmental distractions – while some may be able to focus with white noise others are distracted by noises like people talking, music, and other noises. No email, phones, online activity, etc. Make sure your area is lit or the lighting is set for what you will be doing.
  • Remove mental distractions – take note of all the things going on in your mind that you want to tend to. This helps get this metal thoughts out of your mind to allow more room for focusing on the task at hand.
  • Remove physical distractions – do you need to use the bathroom beforehand? Are you too cold or too hot? Adjust your clothing or your room temperature (if you happen to be inside)

How To Take Action

“Action and reaction, ebb and flow, trial and error, change – this is the rhythm of living. Out of our over-confidence, fear; out of our fear, clearer vision, fresh hope. And out of hope, progress.” ~Bruce Barton

Take Focused Action NowSometimes we let things hold us back from achieving what we really want in life. Stop being held back from your goals. Learn how to take action to move you closer to accomplishing what you desire.

  • Get clear about what you need to do or accomplish and the time limit to complete.
  • Start with belief
  • Take ‘baby steps’ – if you read the book The Compound Effect, you will have a better understanding of how small actions taken consistently will lead you to your destination over time versus expecting to reach your goal overnight.
  • Get accountability – there is nothing like documenting  your goals and sharing them with a group of people who have the same goals and will provide encouraging support
  • Check your enthusiasm – If you don’t enjoy the action you need to take but it has to get done, is there a way to hire someone to do it for you? How excited are you about the goals you are about to take on?
  • No whining, excuses, or blaming – the energy used on the negative could be transferred into something positive such as accepting responsibility for your choices and actions and moving forward.
  • Reward your effort – track the effort that you’ll be making each hour, day, or event so when your deadline approaches you have a clear picture of the action steps you took. Celebrate your effort even if you did not perform to you desired goal.

Combine the two concepts of keeping focus and taking action to propel you forward. What goals are you moving towards this week, this month, this year? To your success,
