Ever thought about working from home but plagued by common beliefs that are holding you back? Here are a few beliefs many people have and some tips on how to remove the beliefs that don’t serve any purpose.
- Making money from home is impossible – earning an income while working from home is possible if you educate yourself on the right way to go about it. Many people have been trained to believe that they only way to make money is by getting a degree or working for a boss in a cubicle but this is only 1 way. There are real people across the globe who are making a living without a traditional job. Believing that you could be one of them is key.
- People who work from home are lazy – this odd belief that if you work from home you really are lazy because you are not working but instead are sitting on a couch, eating bonbons, watching soap operas. While the option to work in pjs is there, there is actual work and action steps that has to be completed or a paycheck won’t be received.
- Working from home is hard work – While it takes some effort, working hard in the beginning may be reasonable but working efficiently is a more smart way of going about things. Getting help when you need it keeps you from having to work harder than necessary. There are several places to outsource at low cost.
- I have to bug my friends and family – learn the etiquette of marketing while you network and show others that you have a genuine interest in helping them. Having quality products and services that are valuable also helps. Learn how to find your target market. This may be your family and friends but if not they may be able to direct you to your target market.
If you truly want to work from home then releasing these beliefs are important because holding onto them serves no purpose in helping you get ahead in this field. Now, how you move past these beliefs (whether you hold them or people around you do) is another thing we’ll go into below:
The best way you can increase your positive beliefs is to believe in something that will serve you is through education & learning + practice.

“If you wish for others to believe in you, you must first convince them that you believe in them” -Harvey McKay
- allow guidance from those who are successful achieving what you want to achieve. Trust that you believe in what they are saying is not only true but serving you so that you can improve your life.
- allow spiritual guidance into your life
Practice visualization
- Think of what you DO want with daily frequency, imagery, and positive emotion
- Nevilize your goals – a practice I first heard about from Joe Vitale who uses Nevel Goddard’s method of visualizing you future goal as if you are in the present having already accomplished it. Incorporate your senses. What does this feel like? What do you see?
Challenge limiting beliefs
“You can have anything you want if you give up the belief that you can’t have it” -Dr. Robert Anthony
- Let go of limiting beliefs - These types of beliefs are called limiting beliefs because they don’t serve you and keep you from reaching your full potential in life.
- Focus on the positive – These type of beliefs that will move you close towards your goals and your vision
- Try Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) – according to National Alliance On Mental Health, cognitive behavioral therapy is “a form of treatment that focuses on examining the relationships between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. By exploring patterns of thinking that lead to self-destructive actions and the beliefs that direct these thoughts, people with mental illness can modify their patterns of thinking to improve coping.”
- Try Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) – this type of therapy uses a technique for removing the negative emotions that limit our success. It’s a meridian-based energy therapy developed by Gary Craig from the landmark discoveries of Dr. Roger Callahan. According to EFTUniverse.com, Clinical trials have shown that EFT is able to rapidly reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress. Once the distress is reduced or removed, the body can often rebalance itself, and accelerate healing. EFT uses elements of Cognitive Therapy and Exposure Therapy, and combines them with Acupressure, in the form of fingertip tapping on 12 acupuncture points.
